ICSSR Sponsored National Seminar on "Nature of Public in Public Philosophy: Epistemological and Normative Contestations" (30 March, 2017)


Public is a concept which is inseparable from democracy. We often read and hear of the use of the term like Public Administration, Public Welfare, Public Utility Services, Union Public Service Commission, Public Conveniences; the idea of public connects us with the notion of justice and welfare. Department of Philsophy, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur organized a National seminar on “Nature of Public in Public Philosophy: Epistemological and Normative Contestations” on 30th March, 2017 at the College Campus. The seminar engaged a wide discussion on the holistic understanding of the ideas and issues concerning public for a creative dialogue to strengthen public welfare and its significance in democracy. The Sub themes which were effectively discussed were Idea of Public Administration in Making of Just Society: Issues and Challenges, Public Welfare and Police Administration Police and Public Relations: Responsibility, laws and education, Individual and Society: Good Self and Good Society, Role of Judiciary in awareness of constitutional laws for public welfare in Indian republic, State and Public Welfare Schemes: MANREGA, NAREGA, Role of Education in Public Welfare, The Idea of Religion and Public Welfare, Role of Education in Public Welfare. In the Seminar among the resource persons Dr. Madhu Prashar, Principal, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur Dr. Lallan Singh Baghel, Chairperson, Department of Philosophy, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Mr. Gaurav Garg, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ferozepur.Dr. Anil Kumar Thakur, Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh.Dr. Smita Sharma, Department of Economics, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Dr. Ambuj Sharma, Head, Department of Philosophy, Dev Samaj College for Women, FerozepurDr. Kanchan Mehta, Department of English, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar., Dr. Sumittar Singh Walia, Department of English, DAV College, Sector 10, Ms. Archana Sharma, Research Scholar, Department of Gandhian Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
