Seminar on “Dr. Narendra Dabholkar and Abolition of Superstitions"

“Superstitions in Punjab are nowhere less than in Pune. There are lakhs of people who are wasting their time, money, health and life by running after the so called God men and finally ending with nothing. The illogical practice of spreading superstitious ideas, activities for personal gains by these so called god men has to be questioned and stopped. Anti superstition law, which Dr. Narendra Dabholkar was demanding in Pune, should be passed for the entire country”, were the issues which thousands of girl students at Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur, today raised while condemning the murder of the social activist Dr. Narendra Dabholkar and pledged that the fight against superstitions would go on. A seminar on “Dr. Narendra Dabholkar and Abolition of Superstitions" was organized by Critique Ferozepur Chapter, A students discussion forum of the college. “How should we look at this entire crisis? How should we deal with these occult, tantric practices and black magic being run and aired by these so called god men? What else should be done is a big question which is posed in front of us?” , raising these questions Khushpreet said that, “It seems that the idea of education and scientific temperament has not touched the lives of even the so called educated community of our times, many of them are most of the times seen supporting these god men. The God men are everywhere in the poor rural background, in the middle and within the elite community. They can be seen fooling people, in their own deras, in different television shows sponsored by their own organizations. “The new generations Babas have taken lead by even occupying the social and television media. They have their own sponsored programmes in which science and its various theories are deconstructed and their supernatural power is all what is advertized. How would any rational being would think of these contemporary superstition crises. Ramanpreet said that Dr. Narendra Dabholkar was one such scientific tempered activist who had questioned these bitter social taboos of our times and today in the domain of education it is our responsibility that we should enhance scientific temperament. She further said that only by studying a course in science, one cannot assert oneself to be scientific tempered. One has to critically analyze oneself and its social environment to reach the truth. A blind superstitious walk behind cunning God men would certainly lead into a great fall and it shall be something like living one’s life unexamined. During the discussion many students shared their personal experiences and other stories of their villages where they and some of their relatives suffered at the hands of these god men
