International Workshop "Rethinking Gender in Punjab and UK Societies" 23.07.2016


Department of Philosophy in Collaboration with the Department-cum-Centre for Women’s Studies and Development, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized an International Workshop "Rethinking Gender in Punjab and UK Societies" 23.07.2016 at the College Campus. The workshop provided a Faculty & Student Exchange Programme at Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur City. Panjab University was conducting the Generation UK-Study India Programme-I on GENDER & GENDER Relations in India from July 17 to July 31, 2016. The Department-cum-Centre for Women’s Studies and Development, Panjab University, Chandigarh was organizing this course, in which 30 students from various Universities of UK were participating. The Department-cum-Centre for Women’s Studies and Development, Panjab University collaborated with Department of Philosophy, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur to organize a one day International workshop at Ferozepur. 30 students from various Universities of UK participated with other students and faculty from Panjab University and Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur at the College Campus. In the workshop two technical sessions were organized in which in the first session students of the Dev Samaj College for Women shared their experiences and concern on the subject. The second session was followed by the presentations by the students from UK. The programme engaged diverse aspects of women’s issues in India and UK in general and Punjab in particular, besides providing the UK students with a broad overview of the culture of the region especially the rural areas. On the occasion Professor Ameer Sultana, Professor Manvinder Kaur and Dr Rajesh Kumar from the Department-cum-Centre for Women’s Studies and Development, Panjab University expressed their ideas. Dr Madhu Prashar, Principal, Dev samaj College for Women, Ferozepur actively engaged with significant questions, experiences and ideas on gender relations. She said that such dialogues will educate and empower young girls for the region and beyond. Dr. Ambuj Sharma, Head, Department of Philsophy extended the vote of thanks to all the participants for their participation at Ferozepur. The Department also arranged a visit to Hussaini Wala Border and at Hussaini Wala National Martyrs Memorial for the participants.
