"Seven Days Orientation Programme (Under Faculty Development Programme) on the Theme "Rethinking the Idea of Education and Pedagogy in the Times of Technological Revolution" (21-27 April, 2017)



Faculty Development Programme is significant for the educational growth of the individual participating teachers, resource persons and educational institutions in general. It provides a platform for teachers to enrich their knowledge on the diverse subjects and enhance their pedagogical skills for better learning and teaching. Though the programmes are being offered by the HRDC across different Universities in India for newly recruited teachers and beyond but there were certain challenges for the women teachers of the border region to participate for the same. It was for instance the challenge of long distance and time required in participating in the programmes. There is Thea large number of adhoc teachers working in the college who too required FDP for their educational growth. Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur took a lead in organizing the Orientation Programme for the teachers of its college and the neighbouring areas to overcome the challenges of long duration and distance. The Department of Philosophy in colloboration with IQAC organized Orientation Programme under FDP as under: Date: 21.04.2017 to 27.04.2017: Seven Days Orientation Programme (Under Faculty Development Programme) on “Rethinking the Idea of Education and Pedagogy in the Times of Technological Revolution” at the college campus. The course provided easy opportunity for adhoc and permanent teachers working in the college and the neighbouring region to participate in a quality course designed and prepared by the Department of Philosophy in colloboration with the IQAC of the College. Renowned faculty from Panjab University, Chandigarh, Punjabi University, Patiala and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar were requested and they delivered significant presentations on diverse subjects engaging creative dialogue among the participants. The Course provided greater opportunity to the participants and resource persons for a better learning and it helped the teachers in more vibrant and creative pedagogy which helped students performace to a good position in academic results and learning. The course provided boon to women teachers of the college and region who find it hard to travel long distance to participate in a FDP because of their family responsibilities and other roles . The course is so designed that they participate at their work place or near to their reach which provide them opportunity to learn and grow into a better teacher. Issues like Rethinking Education in the Contemporary India: Dalit and Women Perspectives, Not for Profit : Why democracy needs Humanities, Cultivating Humanity: Socratic Self Examination, 'How we teach and how we should teach, ‘Knowledge in natural and social sciences’,“How to read Films, “Films Education and Society: Critical Reflections on Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times, “Education, Teaching and Research: Reflections on the Challenges of Our Times”, “Locating Gender in Visual and Oral Tradition: A Historical Perspective”, “Education and Choice Based Credit System”, “Technological Revolution and Education: Issues and Challenges”, “Research and Education: Issues Concerning Policy Matters and Technology” were discussed effectively with the participants.
